Bogotá, Highlands of Cundinamarca, and Lowlands of Meta
The Eastern Andes are the widest of the three Andean ranges in Colombia, home to many sought-after bird species as well as the country’s dynamic capital. This intriguing birding route begins with a cultural taste of Bogotá and then leaves the bustling city and urban traffic behind. We travel just a short distance east into the highlands and foothills of Cundinamarca, reaching the lowlands of Meta near Villavicencio. We’ll sample a wide spectrum of elevations, offering a high concentration of bird species with Eastern Andes endemics, as well as interesting mammals. All in a relatively small area through some of the newest birding hotspots of Colombia!
