OUR STORY

Born from the spirit of adventure and a deep love of nature, Birding by Bus is the brainchild of Eliana and Marc Kramer. Beginning in 2006 when we first met, our unmistakable spark set the stage for not only a wonderful and dynamic relationship, but also a synergistic love of birding and travel. This collaboration helped lay the earliest foundation for Birding by Bus!

Following years of exploring wild places together, in 2018 we pursued our dream of a North American birding big year, with its own unique twist. We would leave our regular lives behind, hit the road and travel 25,000 miles from Florida to Alaska and back... in our 1978 Volkswagen Bus named “Valentina”. Throw in our dreamy Alaska wedding, a trip to the legendary Attu Island, and following our inner wanderlust for a whole year on the road… and you’ve got the journey of a lifetime! Although we knew we’d have some challenges driving a 40-year old camper van across the continent, we also knew that it would be the adventure of a lifetime. Which it absolutely was! At the conclusion of this epic life journey, our next path was to spread our love of birding and travel with others. And so began the current chapter of Birding by Bus!

Eliana’s strong leadership skills and passion for the natural world blended synergistically with Marc’s ornithological expertise and worldly travel experience. The fusion of their strengths was the perfect recipe for an ecotourism venture, specializing in birds and the natural world. There’s nothing they enjoy more than sharing the biological wonders of the world with others that are keen to learn… and making it fun!

Birding by Bus is now recognized for not just the fantastic birding opportunities they create while on tour, but for overlaying elements of a country’s culture, food, music, and its people as well. Their tours are highly personalized and detailed, with first-rate client communication, advanced planning, and world-class customer service. Moreover, they insure that their tours are ecologically sustainable and that they help the communities they visit by employing and empowering the local people. For Marc and Eliana, it’s not just a job, it’s a calling.
